Location on the map:

Groningen Airport Eelde (GRQ) is the international airport of het Northern-Netherlands, home of the KLM Flight Academy and main European dealer of Cirrus aircraft.

GRQ is essential to the University Medical Centre Groningen’s organ transplant-flights and Trauma-helicopter. GRQ is also a popular point of departure for holiday charters and business jet operators.

GRQ has a strong focus on Innovation, Sustainability, green Energy and Education. These are the pillars of it’s NXT Airport program. One of its icon projects is ‘GRQ Hydrogen Valley Airport’:

a full—scale hydrogen ecosystem, involving production of green gaseous hydrogen, distribution of gaseous and liquid hydrogen and utilization of H2.

Basis is the airport’s location in Europe’s first Hydrogen Valley; build by the FCH-JU supported HEAVENN project of New Energy Coalition and a EUR 9 Billion Hydrogen regional Investment Agenda.

Starting point is GRQ’s existing 22 MW airside solar park.

GRQ Hydrogen Valley Airport is an ideal (and scalable) testing ground for H2-innovations in aviation. It will enable other airports in the Netherlands and abroad to make no regret choices in the

implementation of green Hydrogen solutions and avoid unnecessary delays in reaching the ambition to net-zero aviation.
