Mobility as a Service: Aerospace meets Rail
On Tuesday 11 May 2021, NAG organized the Aerospace meets Rail event in collaboration with Railforum.
The event was aimed at collecting ideas to link the two worlds, aerospace and rail, and to strengthen each other with Mobility as a Service. The purpose of the meeting: to share knowledge & experience, but above all to inspire each other to make new connections (both literally and figuratively). Not only for the long term, but especially also for the short term.
Corina de Jongh, director Railforum, and Jan Verbeek, Vice-chairman NAG / Partner ADSE Knowledge Management and Innovation, gave a brief introduction. Aad Veenman, figurehead top sector Logistics, gave an introductory presentation. This was followed by the following six presentations:
- The significance of connecting cities by air and by rail – Maurits Schaafsma, board member at Railforum / planner at the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer.
- Discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of aviation versus train travel – Eric van der Veen, Business Consultant at ADSE, and Jeroen Brandse, Business Development Manager Rail Transport & Mobility at ADSE.
- Lessons learned on Mobility as a Service in Eindhoven – Jaap Sytsma, Project leader MaaS pilot Brainport Eindhoven.
- Simplifying modal transitions for an integrated journey, a discussion of some best practices – Stefan Pangratz, Creative Director at Bureau Mijksenaar, and Jiska van Veen, Design Team Lead – Project Manager at Mijksenaar.
- Planning, booking and paying for international train tickets, an overview of the issues and challenges – Tim Geraedts, Strategic developer of high speed international rail at NS International.
- A service design vision for air-rail journeys towards a desirable customer experience – Rosa Hendrikx, Industrial Design Engineering student at TU Delft, and Suzanne Hiemstra – van Mastrigt, Director of the Seamless Personal Mobility Services Lab at TU Delft.
After the presentations, the participants could choose one of the six break-out sessions that were related to the topics of the presentations. Participants and speakers exchanged contact details to be able to contact each other after the event!
