NAG Segment Meetings: Sustainability devided in 4 topics

On November 5th, 2020, the NAG Online Segment Meetings were held. We were happy to welcome many participants to share knowledge and discuss current topics within our different segments. The theme of this edition was: “start the exchange of ideas and ambitions of the member companies with respect to their approach on sustainability & business continuity”.

Sustainability of aviation is about sustainable flight, but should also cover sustainable product development, production, MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul), airport operations and end of life. Jan Verbeek, deputy chairman of the NAG & Partner – Knowledge Management and Innovation at ADSE, kicked off the meeting with a welcome and introduction. Then there were 6 brief introductions by the members of the preparation group of this meeting:

  • Bas de Glopper, Innovation Project & Process Manager at KLM E&M
  • Vivek Sindhamani, Airport Consultant at NACO
  • Jan Verbeek, Partner – Knowledge Management and Innovation  at ADSE.
  • Michiel Jas, director of sustainability at GKN Aerospace
  • Kjelt van Rijswijk, CEO SAM|XL, TU Delft faculty Aerospace Engineering
  • Ligeia Paletti, senior R&D Engineer at NLR

After the interesting brief presentations there was an opportunity for every member company in the “Round Table” to share their ambitions with respect to their approach on sustainability & business continuity. Interesting conversations arose from this Round Table.

For the separate meetings, the participants were grouped per segment (Aircraft Maintenance, Aircraft Manufacturing and Airport Development & Infrastructure). There were different break-out rooms in Teams, led by one of the speakers. Per break-out room there was a subject within sustainability. The different segments groups all got the opportunity to discuss all 4 topics. The topics were:

  • Design and planning of business activities
  • Investments in buildings and resources
  • Decisions about travel or digital meetings
  • Management in General

For the break-out sessions, the tool Mural was used. Mural is a digital workspace for visual collaboration. By using the online whiteboard on Mural, on which sticky notes can be placed, the idea’s and tips could be displayed clearly.

After the interesting and lively separated session it was time for a wrap-up. Every moderator got a change to share the outcomes of the discussions.

The Participants have indicated that they are interested in doing more in the future within the topic sustainability.
