Pioneering the Future of Aviation: Insights from the ‘Batteries in Aerospace’ Event
Share news
On Tuesday December 3rd, NAG hosted the ‘Batteries in Aerospace’ event at ‘The Terminal’ hosted by Hogeschool Inholland Delft. The event brought together a variety of speakers and (new) industrial parties.
Kicking off the event, we were welcomed by Peter Kortbeek from NAG, followed by an introduction by Arnold Koetje, Program Manager at Hogeschool Inholland Delft. Arnold presented ‘The Impact of Experimenting with Electric Flying: Insights from the Inholland Electric Flight Lab‘ full of visuals from the Electric Flight Lab. Further, the event included presentations from a variety of speakers who presented their part on the subject of Electrifying Aircrafts.
A big thank you to the speakers:
- Frank Kaiser, Expert aircraft propulsion electrification at ADSE – ‘Certification aspects of electric propulsion and aircraft electrification‘
- Nando van Arnhem, Head of Flight Physics at Vaeridion – ‘Challenges and Opportunities of Battery-Electric Flight with the VÆRIDION Microliner‘
- Marc-Henry de Jong, Co-founder at ELECTRON aerospace – ‘On-demand business model to kickstart zero emission flying at scale’
- Peter Janssen, Manager Testing and Proto Build at VDL Enabling Transport Solutions(ETS) – ‘VDL Battery Test Center’
- Johnny van Lugtenburg, Head of Technology at GKN Fokker Elmo – ‘Developments in High Power wiring to support (hybrid) electric aviation‘
- Gerben Groothuis, eFlight Business Development Manager at TwenteAirport – ‘Update EFC‘
Followed by an hour-long panel discussion, the speakers discussed subjects concerning battery certification, electric infrastructure on airports, the maintenance/ accessibility of batteries and safety of batteries (thermal run-outs). Many questions had a link to the complete spectrum of design, certification, manufacturing, testing and operation.
The day concluded with a networking session, offering everyone a chance to connect and reflect and the opportunity to visit the brand new InHolland facility the Terminal, where technology development, component manufacturing, and aircraft integration are concentrated in one laboratory.
This event was made possible by a TKI HTSM Grant, with thanks to Holland High Tech.
Join us and be part of the conversation that’s defining the future of aviation.
