Would you like to do business in China, and you are active in the aviation manufacturing industry then, join the aerospace trade mission to China. This mission is supported and co-organized by the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Netherlands Aerospace Group (NAG), and the Chinese Aeronautical Establishment (CAE).
Opportunities in China
After two decades of rapid development, China has become the second largest commercial aviation market behind the USA. By the end of 2015, China has 54 air transportation companies, 2872 commercial airplanes and 202 airports. Largely due to increased demand for internal flights in China, it is estimated that the worldwide air traffic will more than double between 2015 and 2035. COMAC estimated that in the next 20 years, China will require about 6865 new airplanes adding to its current fleets at a cost of roughly $929 billion. With the development of their own airplanes; the ARJ21, C919, C929, and MA700 China hopes to take a sizeable part of this growing market.
The PIB D2DRAGON a cluster of aerospace companies and institutes has been exploring the opportunities to become a member of the supply chain of the Chinese aircraft manufacturing industry since 2014. One of the results is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Dutch ministry of economic affairs and the Chinese ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) where they agree to intensify cooperation in the area of aerospace technology, specifically in the areas of ATM, Materials & Structures and Aero-engine technology. Under this MOU umbrella and existing contacts we are now organising a trade mission to leverage those factors to make another step in turning existing leads into business opportunities.
For who will this be interesting?
This mission will be interesting for companies and institutes that are active in the areas of aero-engines, aerospace materials and structures, avionics and ATM. The program offers visits to a wide variety of institutes in the Chinese civil aircraft supply-chain, attention will be given to creating business and research opportunities.

On the Monday we will hold the first meeting of the Sino-Dutch Aerospace Cooperation platform. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and MIIT are supporting and organising this platform. In this platform experts from both countries come together to discuss research and development projects, in a later stage relevant projects can be selected to receive funding, this will also be a good opportunity to meet many experts from different companies and knowledge institutes.
On the second day we offer a dual program, one group will visit the Aero Engine Company of China (AECC), where we have been invited to hold a workshop on engine & nacelle designs, and certification issues. The second group will visit the AVIC-CARERI subsidiary that is involved with avionics.
On the third day we will have a workshop with COMAC-SADRI.
The last two days of the program will take place in Xi’an. On Thursday we will visit AVIC-XAIC (Xi’an Aircraft Industry Company), they are one of the biggest tier one supplier of COMAC. In the afternoon we will visit AVIC-ASRI which is the only institute in china responsible for strength testing for parts to full scale aircraft testing. Additionally, we will visit the Chinese Flight Test Establishment (CFTE).
On the fifth and final day we also offer a dual program. One group can join a workshop jointly organised by AVIC-ACTRI & ADSE on organization of certification processes, they will invite many parties within their network. The second group will visit the AVIC-ACTRI in the morning and in the afternoon they will visit the AVIC-FACTRI facilities that is involved with flight control.
On the dual-program days (Tuesday and Friday) participants may select which program they want to attend. During several parts of the program we will split up in smaller groups to accommodate for the diversity in technological areas. It has to be noted that this program is a draft and still susceptible to changes and request from participants.
Costs of the program will include personal costs such as transportation (to and within China), hotel and dining costs.
Estimated costs travel arrangement: € 2.250,- excl. VAT.
Depending on time of registration and booking. A definitive invoice will be send afterwards.
Furthermore non PIB members pay an additional program fee of € 400,- excl. VAT to participate.
